TDIHS #1 | Dr. Robert Kelly | Anthropology, Clovis, Culture, and what it means to be Human

September 12, 2025 David Howe

In this first episode of my new podcast, I talk with my former professor and committee co-chair, Dr. Robert Kelly.

Dr. Kelly literally wrote the book on hunter-gatherer science and human behavioral ecology. Bob is an accomplished archaeologist, anthropologist, and was President of the Society for American Archaeology for a time.

In this episode we talk a lot about the history of anthropology, including Bob working under Lou Binford, and me working under Bob. We also talk about Clovis people, stone tools, human evolution, cave art, human ontology, potlacthes, and the role of anthropology in Sci-Fi and post apocalyptic stories.

We filmed this live in the field at the LaPrele Mammoth Site, WY, so forgive me for the sound. Lots of cars and wind.
